Donald Trump declared on Sunday that he discussed with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney the need for Ottawa to intensify efforts to control the wildfires in Ontario, which have generated dense smoke affecting several states in the U.S. This discussion took place at the World Cup final, where Trump emphasized the importance of stopping the fires.

He mentioned that, in the event Canada does not act, it could impose tariffs or seek damages. The smoke from the Ontario wildfires has begun to affect American residents, who have been advised to stay indoors. Carney's office did not immediately comment on Trump's statements, but it informed that Ottawa has mobilized over 5,300 firefighters to combat the fires. This season, Canada has reported burning approximately 2.4 million hectares of land due to wildfires.
