Donald Trump announced that he has appointed Bill Pulte, a close associate with no experience in the field of national security, as the acting director of national intelligence. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump stated that Pulte is 'less constrained' due to his temporary status and that he would like to fire a large number of employees from the intelligence community.

The president believes that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) is 'unnecessary and/or too large' and has asked Pulte to begin the reorganization process. Pulte's appointment has raised skepticism among Republicans, who are concerned about his lack of experience, fearing that he could politicize the agency.

Trump emphasized that Pulte should make more classified documents related to the 2020 elections public, fueling concerns from the Democratic opposition regarding the use of politics in intelligence services. Pulte, known as 'Little Trump', was previously the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and has been involved in legal actions against the president's political opponents.
