In a speech at the White House, President Donald Trump said the window of opportunity for Russia to rejoin the G7 has closed, reversing his previous position. In February, Trump believed Russia's expulsion from the group was a mistake and advocated its return, suggesting that the war in Ukraine could have been avoided if the G8 had continued. Russia was expelled from the G7 in 2014 after the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. The G7 includes Canada, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the UK.
