American President Donald Trump will announce on Wednesday a plan to use government funding and Pentagon contracts to support coal-fired power plants in the U.S.

The initiative will take the form of an executive order, through which Trump will direct Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to finalize agreements for the purchase of electricity from coal-fired power plants, invoking the Defense Production Act of 1950.

Additionally, Trump will announce the distribution of 175 million dollars for the modernization of six coal plants in several states. These measures are part of his efforts to revitalize the coal sector, which is facing challenges due to the rise of energy from alternative sources and concerns related to climate change.
