A devastating explosion occurred Wednesday morning in a lead mine in Plateau State, Nigeria, resulting in the death of 38 miners, and another 27 people were urgently transported to the hospital.

The incident took place between 07:30 and 08:00, while the miners were in the shafts. Witnesses reported that the explosion was caused by a gas buildup, and most of the victims were young people aged between 20 and 35 years. A security report suggested that carbon monoxide poisoning could be the cause of the accident. Although the Kampanin Zurak mine is legally operated by Solid Unit Nigeria Limited, there are also many illegal mines in the area, which contribute to the violence in the region.
