Cocaine trafficking has increased alarmingly, with a record production of more than 3,700 tons and the number of users reaching 25 million.

According to the UNODC report, global cocaine trafficking reached new highs in 2023, with illicit production rising by about a third, mainly from Colombia. The global number of cocaine users has risen to 25 million, up from 17 million 10 years ago. North America, Western and Central Europe, and South America remain the biggest markets. The market for synthetic drugs such as amphetamine and fentanyl also continues to expand, with record seizures in 2023.
