TikTok accelerates the expansion of its infrastructure in Europe, announcing an investment of 1 billion euros for the construction of a new data center in the city of Lahti, Finland. This will be the company's second data center in less than a year and is part of a broader strategy to move European user data onto the territory of the European Union, in an attempt to respond to political pressures and security concerns.

The project will have an initial capacity of 50 MW, with the possibility of expanding up to 128 MW, and is included in a larger program estimated at 12 billion euros, aimed at enhanced data protection for over 200 million European users. This move comes in a tense context, where the parent company ByteDance recently avoided a ban in the US, and European authorities are increasing pressure on social platforms.

Finland is becoming increasingly attractive to tech giants due to cheap and green energy, but TikTok's plans have sparked political controversy, with Finnish officials criticizing the lack of transparency and raising questions about security risks. The first TikTok data center in Finland is expected to become operational by the end of the year, and the second is planned for 2027.
