A convoy of trucks with armored vehicles and prefabricated buildings of the American forces has been observed heading towards the border with Iraq, signaling the beginning of the withdrawal from the Qasrak base. A Kurdish official confirmed that the withdrawal began on Monday, and the United States has already left two other bases in the last two weeks. It is estimated that the withdrawal will be completed in 20 days, and the American military presence in Syria will cease completely.
For over a decade, the United States has maintained approximately 1,000 soldiers in Syria to fight against the ISIS group, having Kurdish forces as main allies. The withdrawal coincides with the expansion of the Syrian government's control over the north of the country, and the Kurdish forces are set to be integrated into the Syrian army according to a recent agreement.
