American Secretary of State Marco Rubio had discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding diplomatic negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.

According to an American official, the U.S. proposed a plan in which Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group, would cease attacks on Israel, while Israel would refrain from escalating the conflict in Beirut. This approach would create a framework for a gradual de-escalation and an effective cessation of hostilities. Aoun attempted to advance the proposal, but the President of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, placed the responsibility on Israel, demanding that it stop firing. The American official emphasized that the U.S. does not expect Israel to endure Hezbollah's ongoing attacks on civilians.
