The U.S. Treasury Department announced the lifting of sanctions imposed on Milorad Dodik, the nationalist leader of the Serb-Bosniaks, and his allies, including ministers and family members. OFAC did not provide explanations for this decision, but Serbian officials mentioned that they have been working to improve relations with the U.S. while maintaining ties with Russia. Dodik, former president of the Republic of Srpska, has been sanctioned since 2017 for violating the Dayton peace agreement. He thanked President Trump for lifting the sanctions, considering it a moral rehabilitation. Although he has been named an interim president, Dodik continues to exercise his duties and challenges judicial decisions that target him. The U.S. welcomes these measures as part of efforts to defuse the crisis in Bosnia.
