The United States Space Command recently conducted a war exercise called 'Apollo Insight', focusing on the threat posed by Russia's anti-satellite nuclear capability. General Stephen Whiting stated that the exercise involved officials and over 60 companies, discussing a 'worst-case scenario' and solutions to prevent such a threat. In 2024, the Biden administration mentioned a Russian satellite suspected of links to this weapon, although Russia denied the allegations.

Experts emphasize that the use of a nuclear weapon in space would violate international treaties, and Russia could use a nuclear-powered device to affect satellites. The exercise included participants from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, highlighting the seriousness of the threats and the need to develop counter-capabilities. Criticism from the U.S. Senate suggests that the National Defense Strategy does not adequately address emerging threats in the nuclear and space domains.
