On February 5, the Southern Spear Conjugate Operations Force carried out a lethal kinetic strike against a vessel operated by a designated terrorist organization, according to a statement from the U.S. Southern Command. The attack was ordered by General Francis L. Donovan, who took command of Southcom a day earlier. This action is part of Operation Southern Spear, a U.S. campaign aimed at combating drug trafficking, which has resulted in the deaths of at least 119 people on boats suspected of drug trafficking. This is the second known action this year, the previous one occurring in January, when two people died and one survived. Following the attack on February 5, no casualties were reported among U.S. military personnel.
