The United States and the interim authorities in Venezuela have agreed to reestablish diplomatic relations, an important step in a historically adversarial relationship. The State Department stated that this effort will facilitate joint efforts for stability, economic recovery, and political reconciliation in Venezuela. Diplomatic relations were suspended in 2019 when Maduro decided to close the embassies, after the U.S. supported the opposition led by Juan Guaidó. Since then, the U.S. has operated from Bogotá, Colombia. Recently, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum made a visit to Venezuela, focusing on the mining sector and attracting foreign investments. The Venezuelan government, led by Delcy Rodríguez, expressed confidence that the renewal of relations will open beneficial opportunities for both countries. Additionally, the government has adopted an amnesty law, acknowledging that it has detained many people for political reasons. The opposition leader, María Corina Machado, announced that she will return to Venezuela, promising elections in the near future.
