The UK government announced on Thursday the imposition of new sanctions against Russia, targeting six Russian banks, six recently acquired oil tankers, and four companies that import rare metals essential for armament.

This measure is part of London's ongoing efforts to stop the flow of money to Moscow, which could be used to support Russia's war effort in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the invasion in 2022, the UK has sanctioned over 3,400 individuals and entities under the sanctions regime. British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that pressure on Russia will continue until a just and lasting peace is achieved. Russia has dismissed these sanctions as politically motivated, and the Russian Embassy in London did not provide an immediate comment on the new measures.
