The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, appointed French diplomat Jean Arnault as his personal envoy for the Middle East conflict, emphasizing that the war is "out of control." Guterres expressed his concern about the risks of an expanded conflict that could cause a "wave of human suffering."

In the context of Israeli-American attacks on Iran, which retaliated with attacks on Israel and Gulf states, Guterres warned that the fighting could trigger a chain reaction. He stressed the importance of avoiding the transformation of Lebanon into a new Gaza, urging Hezbollah to cease attacks on Israel and Israel to stop military operations in Lebanon, where civilians suffer the most. Guterres stated that initiatives for dialogue and peace are underway, maintaining contact with representatives from the region and around the world.
