According to estimates, the Swiss have overwhelmingly rejected two proposals put to a vote: 84% voted against the gender equality initiative in military service, while 79% rejected the climate tax on inheritances. The government and parliament argued that these proposals would threaten the economy. Proponents of the equality initiative, including the committee chair, Noémie Roten, argued that the current system is discriminatory towards women. In contrast, critics such as Cyrielle Huguenot stated that the initiative does not reflect the reality of women in Switzerland, who already face a disproportionate burden of unpaid work. The second proposal, dubbed the "future initiative," aimed at a 50% tax on inheritances over 50 million francs, promising revenues for the ecological transition, but was also rejected.
