A court in Germany has sentenced a Ukrainian citizen to one year and three months in prison for espionage in favor of Russia and complicity in the preparation of acts of sabotage.
The Stuttgart court acquitted two other Ukrainians involved in a sabotage plot.
The three men, arrested in Germany and Switzerland, were accused of sending test packages to Ukraine, containing GPS tracking devices, at the order of a Russian intelligence service.
Prosecutors stated that the plan included sending packages with incendiary devices, intended to cause damage and undermine public safety. Germany, a major supporter of Ukraine, remains on high alert regarding sabotage and espionage activities. Recently, a drone with explosives was discovered near a cargo plane at Leipzig-Halle airport, an incident described by officials as a 'hybrid attack scenario.'
