The European Commission has stated that the signing of the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, postponed due to the opposition from France and Italy, could take place "soon", although there is no specific date.

The Commission's spokesperson, Paula Pinho, mentioned that recent discussions have led to progress, but specific details have not been provided. At the December summit, European leaders ruled out signing the agreement on December 20-21, setting a new date for January 12, provided that Italy's and France's concerns regarding the impact on the agricultural sector are addressed. Additionally, farmers' protests in Brussels, which gathered around 10,000 participants, highlighted grievances related to the EU's agricultural policy and the controversial agreement.
