The Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, ordered the identification of the soldiers who mocked the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, shot at Utah Valley University. The Pentagon spokesperson, Sean Parnell, stated that it is unacceptable for military personnel to celebrate the assassination of an American compatriot. Although the number of sanctioned soldiers is unclear, some believe that punishing personal opinions is excessive. Kirk, a promoter of the MAGA movement, was a key figure in the 2024 election campaign.
