The opposition in Congress, which is in the minority, criticizes the Republican administration for not properly informing about a military operation against Iran, accusing it of launching a covert war without the necessary authorization. The Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, has called for a meeting of Congress to vote on a resolution that would limit President Trump's powers to declare war without legislative consent.

The resolution was proposed by Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna and Republican Thomas Massie. Additionally, the Democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, has requested further information about the operation. While the Republican majority supports Trump's actions, arguing that Iran poses a threat, the Pentagon informed the Armed Services Committee about the attacks after they began. The United States and Israel have carried out attacks on targets in Iran, and the country has retaliated with missiles towards Israel and American bases.
