Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, is recognized as the oldest hotel in the world, continuously operating for over 1,300 years. Founded in 705 AD by Fujiwara Mahito, the hotel features hot springs, and each bath has access to the water source. The owners chose not to modernize the building, thus preserving its original charm. Keiunkan has gone through a dramatic history, with devastating fires in 1909 and 1916, a landslide in 1925, and a typhoon in 1982, which led to the main building being relocated several times. Certified by Guinness World Records in 2011, the hotel is considered the oldest business on Earth. Located near Mount Fuji, access to the hotel is difficult, with guests being picked up by a minibus from a nearby village.
