The National Guard in Washington D.C. will remain in the capital of the United States until the end of February, according to an official order dated November 4, which extends an initial mission from August 11. This mission was triggered in response to the state of emergency declared by President Donald Trump, aimed at protecting federal properties and functions in the District of Columbia and supporting law enforcement.
Since August, hundreds of National Guard soldiers have been deployed in Washington, as part of a mission to combat crime, which also included taking control of the local police department. Although the initial order expired in September, approximately 2,000 soldiers from D.C. and other states continue to be present, with most contingents planning to withdraw by the end of November. Washington D.C. contributes the largest number of soldiers, with 949 in an operational force of 2,375 soldiers, followed by West Virginia with 416 guardsmen.
