Federal Judge Jia Cobb ruled that the federal government acted illegally by deploying them without requesting the approval of local authorities. This decision comes after the Washington mayor contested the deployment, accusing the Executive of overstepping its authority.

Currently, approximately 2,175 National Guard troops are deployed in the capital, and the judge's decision gives the government a 21-day period to appeal. This action is part of a series of National Guard deployments in American cities, in the context where President Trump insisted on the need to strengthen security against crime and illegal immigration.
