The motion of censure against the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was rejected by the European Parliament, with only 165 votes in favor out of 720. This motion, promoted by far-right parliamentarians, was generated by the controversy surrounding the recently signed EU-Mercosur trade agreement. Von der Leyen was absent from the debates, attending an emergency summit in Brussels.

The agreement has been sent to the EU Court of Justice for analysis, and opponents argue that it could violate European treaties. France opposed the idea of provisional application of the agreement, considering it a violation of democracy, while Germany called for this application. The European Commission expressed disappointment at the vote in Parliament, emphasizing the importance of the swift implementation of the agreement in the context of tensions with the US.
