The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Romania has issued a warning for Romanian citizens who are in or intend to travel to Singapore, highlighting the tightening of legislation regarding electronic cigarettes. Singaporean authorities have criminalized various acts related to the use of these products.

For electronic cigarettes containing etomidate, the penalty for possession, consumption, or refusal to be tested ranges from 1 to 10 years in prison, with fines of up to 20,000 SGD. Trafficking and unauthorized production are punishable by imprisonment from 4 to 20 years. In the case of electronic cigarettes without etomidate, possession and consumption can attract fines of up to 2000 SGD, while import and sale are offenses that can lead to imprisonment of up to 6 months and fines of up to 10,000 SGD. The MFA reminds that controlled drugs can attract the death penalty. Romanian citizens in difficulty can contact the Romanian Embassy in Singapore for assistance.
