The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has issued a travel warning for Bulgaria, where significant changes have been made to the Law on Public Road Traffic. Drivers, including Romanian citizens, are required to pay traffic fines on the spot, using a bank card. The Bulgarian police are equipped with POS devices to facilitate this payment, and in case payment cannot be made, drivers will be taken to the nearest payment machine. Refusal to pay the fine may lead to the retention of the registration certificate and license plates for a period of up to three months. Romanian citizens who need consular assistance can contact the Romanian Embassy in Sofia, and for emergency situations, there is a dedicated phone number. MAE recommends consulting official websites for additional information.
