On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Unified School District adopted a measure that makes it one of the first districts in the country to impose clear limits on the use of digital devices, by age group. The initiative follows the ban on phone use at school, introduced in 2024. Nick Melvoin, a board member, stated that the goal is to become national leaders in managing these issues. Supporters of the measure emphasize the importance of balancing educational needs with the risks of excessive screen exposure, considering the negative effects associated with it, such as vision problems, anxiety, depression, and low academic performance. The measure does not impose immediate limits but calls for the development of age-appropriate guidelines, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and public health experts.
