Train circulation in Spain is severely disrupted on Monday due to a three-day strike organized by the Semaf union, which represents locomotive drivers.
This protest action was triggered by two fatal accidents in January, in which 46 people died after a high-speed train derailed in Andalusia and another victim in an accident in Catalonia. Discussions between the Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, and the unions have failed to stop the strike. The strike has led to frequent delays and cancellations of commuter trains, especially in Barcelona and Catalonia, where the railway lines are being inspected and repaired. Additionally, freight transport to France and the ports of Barcelona and Valencia has been affected.
