The Kessler twins, Alice and Ellen, stars of variety shows in Germany and Italy in the 1960s, died on Monday by assisted suicide at the age of 89, in their home near Munich. According to the publication Bild, this type of suicide is permitted in Germany under certain conditions. The police were informed after the two women had already passed away, confirming the death and ruling out the involvement of a third party. The Kesslers had a brilliant career, singing and dancing on stages around the world, including in the United States, where they appeared on famous shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show. Born in 1936 in Saxony, they left the German Democratic Republic in 1952 and began a successful career in West Germany, collaborating with renowned artists such as Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire.
