Luigi Mangione, 27 years old, suspected of murdering Brian Thompson, the director of the largest health insurance group in the USA, received a favorable decision from federal judge Margaret Garnett. She dismissed two charges for which the prosecution sought the death penalty, related to murder and the use of a silenced pistol. However, Mangione remains charged with harassment, with possible penalties of up to life in prison. The federal trial will begin on October 13, and in the case of the state of New York, the date has not been set. Mangione, the son of a wealthy family from Baltimore, was arrested after fleeing the crime scene, becoming a symbol of American discontent with the health insurance system.
