Wine producers in France have warned that the extremely hot summer has halted the growth of grapes in the Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy regions, which could lead to an early harvest and lower production. The heatwave at the end of June, followed by drier weather, has affected young vineyards and extended the drought, which has lasted for at least three weeks.

In Champagne, producers expect the earliest harvest, starting on August 15, with yields estimated to be 10% lower than last year. Although production may decrease, existing reserves could partially offset this loss. In Bordeaux and Burgundy, the heatwaves have been severe, and the decline in production is considered significant, although the quality of the wine may remain intact, with a higher sugar content.

The harvest could begin unusually early, with grapes from Bordeaux expected at the beginning of August and in Burgundy around August 20.
