The Gironde department in France has been affected by a heatwave that has led to interruptions in the supply of drinking water in nearly 20 towns. According to Le Figaro, the problems were caused by a combination of extreme heat and malfunctions at water towers, which occurred on the night from Sunday to Monday. Households were left without drinking water on Monday and Tuesday, and authorities announced that the issue is being addressed. Christophe Martial, the president of a union, explained that excessive water consumption was driven by garden watering and pool filling, exceeding the production capacity of the supply system. In some cases, the affected towns received bottled water to cope with the situation. Typically, excessive water consumption begins in July, coinciding with the first heatwaves, when many people are on vacation.
