Heatwaves are affecting wine production in Italy, the world leader in this field. Farmers in Lombardy, the richest region of the country, have been forced to start harvesting grapes at least 10 days earlier than usual due to extreme heatwaves.

Arturo Ziliani, CEO of Berlucchi, mentioned that this heat has accelerated the ripening of the grapes and increased the potential alcohol content by about two degrees. Viticulturists must quickly adapt to the new conditions, and Ferdinando Dell'Aquila, an oenologist, emphasizes the importance of promptness in monitoring the vineyards. Although the challenges are significant, the quality of the grapes remains excellent, and this year's wine production is expected to be exceptional. Italy continues to be the largest wine producer, surpassing France and Spain.
