The digital platform now offers detailed data down to the municipal level, allowing for a finer analysis of the impact of tourism on local communities and the environment.

Brussels, December 15, 2025 — The European Commission has completed the annual update of the EU Tourism Dashboard, an essential tool for monitoring socio-economic resilience and the green transition in this sector. The online platform provides interactive visualizations based on statistical data provided by Eurostat and the Joint Research Centre (JRC), covering the period 2019-2024.

In short

The 2025 update introduces municipal-level data for the first time.

Two new major indicators have been added: women's labor force participation and the proportion of short-term rentals.

The platform monitors 35 indicators grouped into ecological, digital, and socio-economic pillars.

The major novelty of this update is the granularity of the data. Starting in December 2025, certain indicators will be available at the municipal level, not just regional or national, allowing for much more precise comparisons of destinations. For example, users can analyze the quality of bathing waters, internet connection speed, or tourism intensity specific to a particular city.

The 2025 edition also comes with relevant content changes for social and economic policies. Two new indicators have been introduced: the employment rate of women in the tourism sector and the proportion of short-term accommodation units, a highly debated topic in major European cities. Additionally, the platform has been technically optimized to be faster and now includes a section for thematic articles, also providing the ability to adjust financial data between current prices and constant prices.
