The European Commission has proposed sending a verification mission to the Druzhba oil pipeline in Ukraine, which is at the center of a diplomatic conflict between Ukraine and Hungary. The initiative comes after Budapest blocked the approval of a 90 billion euro European loan for Kiev, citing the halt of oil deliveries through the damaged pipeline, according to Ukrainian authorities, following Russian attacks.

Tensions escalated after a delegation sent by Hungary to inspect the infrastructure was described by Kiev as a group of "spies", with Ukrainian authorities stating that its members did not have official status.
