The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that almost all EU member countries are requesting an assessment of the need to impose a minimum age for access to social media platforms. Denmark, along with nine other states, has clearly expressed the desire to introduce such a threshold. This position is also supported by the European Parliament. Von der Leyen emphasized both the opportunities and the risks associated with modern technologies, criticizing social media models that contribute to addiction. She advocated for a childhood free from external pressures, allowing children to experiment and develop self-confidence. She also mentioned that Australia, by introducing a minimum age of 16 for access to social media, has made progress. Von der Leyen highlighted the importance of an effective age verification system, which is set to be implemented in Denmark this summer.
