On Thursday, the leaders of the European Union will analyze proposals for the use of revenues from frozen Russian sovereign assets, primarily in Belgium, to financially support Ukraine. President Zelensky emphasized the need for European unity in allocating these assets, considering the financial difficulties Ukraine is facing. The IMF estimates that Ukraine will need approximately 135 billion euros for 2026 and 2027, and the budget deficit for the next year amounts to 1.9 trillion hryvnias.
The Minister of Finance stated that Ukraine needs 45 billion dollars in external financing for 2026, and defense spending will represent a significant part of the budget. Additionally, Ukraine has already received over 160 billion dollars in external financial aid from partners since the beginning of the Russian invasion. A swift decision to approve the loan for repairs could also unlock other funds necessary for Ukraine's economic stability.
