A British supply ship, equipped with a helicopter, was deployed to monitor the Kilo-class submarine and the tugboat Altay, which entered the English Channel through the Dover Strait. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the submarine remained on the surface during the operation. Once the submarine approached the island of Ouessant, the operation was handed over to a NATO ally.
This follows a similar pursuit in July, when the Royal Navy detected the submarine Novorosiisk. In addition, the United Kingdom has launched a multi-million pound program to enhance the navy's capabilities against Russian underwater threats, considering the 30% increase in Russian submarine activity in British waters over the past two years.
