The UK government intends to implement temporary measures to help airlines consolidate flights during the summer season, in the context of the accelerated rise in fuel prices. The plan allows operators to combine passengers on fewer flights, especially on routes with multiple daily flights, and to temporarily give up takeoff and landing slots without losing them for the next season. This decision comes as a result of the blockage of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which has led to an increase in the price of kerosene, reaching approximately 179 dollars per barrel. Authorities hope that the new rules will reduce fuel waste and avoid flights with low occupancy rates. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander assured that there is no immediate fuel shortage, although the airline industry warns of short-term risks, especially following the bankruptcy of Spirit Airlines in the US. Representatives of the British airline industry welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the need for flexibility in managing the volatility of the energy market.
