The police in Belgium have arrested eight people and conducted searches in 18 homes in Brussels and Leuven, in the context of death threats against prosecutor Julien Moinil, known for his fight against organized crime and drug trafficking.
The judicial authorities in Brussels received information about a possible plot to attack Moinil, which led to an increase in the threat level to four, the highest category, and to his protection by the police. The arrested suspects have criminal records related to organized drug trafficking and are associated with the Albanian underworld. So far, it is unclear whether they actually planned an attack on the prosecutor.
