The appeals court has decided to reevaluate the 16-year prison sentence of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, convicted of raping an actress in California in 2013. The court has upheld the conviction for the crimes committed, but has annulled the sentence, sending the case back for retrial. The reasons for this decision are not yet public, and Weinstein, at the age of 74, could benefit from a reduction in his sentence or, conversely, receive a harsher penalty. This turn of events comes after the rape allegations made by actress Jessica Mann were dropped in New York, following three trials without a unanimous verdict. Weinstein, accused of harassment and rape by over 80 women, was an influential figure in the film industry, but the scandal he was involved in led to the triggering of the #MeToo movement. Although he is in prison, he continues to contest his guilt, claiming that all relationships were consensual.
