Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis decided on Monday to dismiss the criminal charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, but emphasized that the Department of Justice's decision to drop the criminal prosecution is concerning.

Adani, accused of bribery and fraud, promised a $10 billion investment in the U.S., which raised suspicions about the influence of this promise on the prosecutors' decision. Garaufis criticized how prosecutor Trent McCotter collaborated with Adani's lawyers without consulting the investigators. Although he dismissed the case, the judge requested more information to assess the charges against other defendants.

Adani was accused of bribing Indian officials for the approval of a solar power plant and misleading American investors. Additionally, Adani agreed to pay $6 million to settle a civil lawsuit from the SEC. The judge stated that the public must decide the impact of these offers on justice.
