In the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, AfD recorded a historic advance, reaching 14.5%, compared to 5.1% in 2018. CDU dropped to 33.3%, while SPD to 22.1%. These elections are an important test for the current government, and AfD, led by Alice Weidel, aims to become the main party in Germany, having a national record score of 20.8%. The party has gained popularity especially amid issues related to immigration.
