Tensions between Spain and Morocco have intensified around the status of the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, after officials in Madrid emphasized that Spanish sovereignty over these enclaves is indisputable. The statements come in response to remarks by Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi, who stated that the territorial claim over the two cities 'remains on the table'.

Spanish officials reaffirmed that Spain's territorial integrity is recognized internationally and will not be negotiated.

Defense Minister Margarita Robles assured the residents of Ceuta that the Armed Forces will remain deployed to support them, emphasizing that 'Ceuta and Melilla are completely Spanish'. In the context of discussions about migration, Ouahbi criticized Spain for its handling of migrants and mentioned the possibility of suspending the extradition agreement with Spain. This situation reflects deeper tensions between the two countries, particularly regarding control over these strategic enclaves.
