The Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te announced that he arrived on Saturday in Eswatini, the only diplomatic ally of Taipei in Africa, after his initial visit, scheduled between April 22 and 26, was postponed due to the revocation of flight authorizations by several African countries under economic pressure from Beijing. In a message on Facebook, Lai emphasized the importance of this visit for strengthening economic, cultural, and educational relations between Taiwan and Eswatini.

Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is one of the 12 countries that recognize Taiwan's sovereignty, in a context where China has convinced many other states to sever diplomatic ties with Taipei. Lai Ching-te was forced to postpone the visit due to the unexpected revocation of flight authorizations by Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar, and the foreign minister represented Taiwan at the anniversary ceremonies of King Mswati III. This visit underscores Taiwan's commitment to promoting international cooperation, despite pressures from China.
