Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the leader of Syria, will make a visit to Washington DC in November, where he is expected to meet with President Donald Trump to sign an official accession agreement for Syria to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which includes 89 members. Tom Barrack, the U.S. special envoy for Syria, announced that this event will take place on November 10. Sharaa, a former commander of Al-Qaeda, took over leadership after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad and is trying to present himself as a moderate Islamist leader committed to fighting extremism. Trump has also had previous meetings with Sharaa, and Barrack mentioned that progress in negotiations between Israel and Syria could facilitate the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria.
