Switzerland has dismissed the national hockey team selector Patrick Fischer for using a false vaccination certificate.

The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced the dismissal of head coach Patrick Fischer after he admitted to using a fake Covid vaccination certificate to travel to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Fischer, at the age of 50, stated that he acted out of a personal crisis, wanting not to disappoint the team.

Although he initially received support from the federation for acknowledging his mistake, media pressure led to a change of opinion. The president of the federation, Urs Kessler, emphasized the importance of values and respect in Swiss hockey, values that Fischer did not uphold. Jan Cadieux, announced as his replacement, will take over the team's leadership with immediate effect. Fischer, who has led the national team since 2015, was set to retire after the World Championship in May.
