Sweden has announced that it will donate 16 Gripen C/D fighter jets to Ukraine and will sell another 20 Gripen E/F jets, purchased with European funds. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the first Gripen C/D jets will be donated next year, and deliveries for the E/F model will begin in 2030.
Ukraine is counting on funding of 2.5 billion euros for the purchase of the jets from Saab. This decision is considered historic for Sweden and will significantly strengthen Ukraine's air defense. Additionally, Ukraine has requested a response from the United States for the supplementation of the Patriot air defense systems. Sweden had previously suspended the delivery of combat aircraft in favor of American F-16 jets, but continues to support Ukraine with a total military aid estimated at 128 billion crowns.
