Polish authorities found around ten explosive devices in the home of a 66-year-old man who was arrested on Sunday and charged with nine offenses, including attempting to forcibly overthrow the state authorities. The information was presented on Tuesday by Piotr Skiba, a spokesperson for Poland’s prosecution service, as cited by Agerpres and AFP.
Among the objects discovered was an acoustic grenade filled with metal balls. The prosecutor said the device could have had an effect similar to that of a fragmentation grenade because of the metal projectiles.
The suspect, identified by authorities as Krzysztof N. in accordance with Polish legislation on privacy protection, allegedly recruited people who own weapons for the planned attack. He refused to admit to his actions or provide explanations to investigators.
The man is being investigated for nine offenses. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of between two and 15 years. The investigation will determine the scope of the plan and the suspect’s exact role.
