According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on January 12-13, 2026, only 17% of Americans support President Donald Trump's plans to purchase Greenland, while 47% disapprove of these efforts. Additionally, 71% of respondents believe that using military force to take over Greenland would not be a good idea. Concerns are heightened by the fact that 66% of Americans, including 91% of Democrats, fear that these actions could affect U.S. relations with NATO and European allies.

In this context, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with Danish and Greenlandic officials. The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, stated that the territory prefers to remain under the union with Denmark, emphasizing that, in the event of a choice between the U.S. and Denmark, Greenland chooses Denmark.
